The Transformative Power of the Fear-Free organization. Vital Insights from Neuroscience on how to Transform your Business Culture - The New Role of HR
The way we understand human behavior is changing rapidly. The technology that now underpins the study of the brain has disrupted traditional HR in the same way that Uber has disrupted the traditional taxi industry by offering clients the ability to digitally hail a cab and track its arrival. You can choose to hide away or embrace it.
What is the underlying model of 'the person’ from a traditional HR perspective? Twentieth-century psychology failed to provide HR with the tools it needed and 20th-century concepts are no longer valid. Motivational theory as previously understood is dead. Neuroscience is helping us understand what ‘the person’ is and how he or she operates. The crux of the matter is that the person is a source of energy. Human energy is the only source of profit. However, HR plays no part in how each individual came to be the person he or she is now. How then does HR integrate completely different operating systems into a whole unified workforce? The key to this is understanding emotions, how they differ from feelings, and how energy is deployed in the brain and body and then focuses on outcomes. A shift is required from fear to trust, towards relationships and the recognition of people as self-regulating systems.
How does HR apply a professional mindset to this core challenge in order to reinvent the future credibility of the profession and stake its claim to sit on the top executive boards? It all comes down to a leader’s capacity to manage the subtleties of his or her own brain when managing others’ brains, and in this respect, relationship is the key. And what happens if we consider that men’s and women’s brains genuinely operate differently?
