The holder of the Grupo Santander Chair of Financial Institutions and Corporate Governance is Gaizka Ormazabal. Prof. Ormazabal received a PhD in Business from Stanford University and a PhD in Construction Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. His research focuses on the determinants and economic impact of corporate governance and executive compensation practices. His work delves into the current debates, issues and controversies in the corporate governance field, including risk-taking incentives, corporate risk oversight, financial regulation, asset securitization, stakeholder activism, and the role of corporate governance intermediaries.
