Corporate finance is a key area for the correct functioning of any organization. However, the finances often appear as a series of numbers that are too complex and difficult to manage and understand, even by senior executives.

IESE Prof. Eduardo Martínez Abascal has made a speciality of translating financial information into an intelligible form. In his classes, the professor goes over the fundamentals that any executive must understand in order to have sufficient confidence and knowledge to take the correct decisions.

These fundamentals make up the course “Corporate Finance”, which won the Alumni Association award for the best course given during the past academic year.

The course was developed within the context of IESE’s Executive Education programs and is also given in the MBA program.

The content of the course is divided into two parts. The first, operational finance, focuses on an analysis of the gains and losses and the balance of the situation in such a way that the information can be used in decision-making. The second, structural finance, studies the decisions around investment and financing as a way of financing anticipated investment.

Research excellence awards

The prize awarded to Prof. Martínez Abascal is one of the three Research Excellence Awards presented by the IESE Alumni Association.

The awards, established in 2001, recognize the best book, best course, and best academic article of the year with a prize of €10,000 for each category.
