An aging population, financial pressures and new technologies are transforming the healthcare sector and dominating the debate about long-term sustainability.

The Jaime Grego Chair of Healthcare Management was created in 2014 in parallel to the teaching activities and research into health economics conducted by IESE. Its mission is to contribute to the advancement and dissemination of knowledge in the areas of health economics and health policy.

The aim is for the findings of its research to facilitate the transformation of the sector through the creation of a new, integrated framework for healthcare innovation and management.

The Chair takes part in international symposia and conferences, organizes sessions for IESE’s Alumni Learning Program, and collaborates with the IESE Healthcare Initiative programs.

Research lines

  • Understanding what works and why in healthcare by analyzing the experiences of different international healthcare systems.
  • Identifying the most relevant drivers in the use of technology in healthcare.
  • Understanding the impact of health insurance incentives.
  • Identifying and evaluating the key success factors in the promotion of integrated healthcare.
  • Studying the processes required in encouraging a healthy lifestyle and the role of prevention.
  • Identifying the best practices in the sector.
Publications

Holder of the Chair

Núria Mas is a professor of Economics and academic director of IESE’s Annual Healthcare Industry Meeting. She holds a doctorate in Economics from Harvard and is a member of the Governing Council of the Bank of Spain. She is an honorary member of the Spanish Economic Association and a member of the Advisory Committee for the Sustainability and Progress of the Healthcare System (CASost) of the government of Catalonia. She has worked as a consultant on health economics for the European Commission and several public institutions.
