Clara Carrera is an Assistant Professor in the Operations, Information and Technology Department. She joined IESE Business School in 2025 after earning a Ph.D. from INSEAD, where she was a core member of the Sustainable Business Initiative. She holds an engineering degree from École Polytechnique in France and a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Civil Engineering from UPC-BarcelonaTech. Prior to her doctoral studies, she worked as a strategic management consultant at the Boston Consulting Group and gained experience as a transportation analyst at Amazon France.
Clara’s research examines practice-driven problems in sustainable operations management, focusing on both the physical and behavioral limits to clean energy and the circular economy. For example, she has studied the intersection of product design and recycling operations in the context of critical materials used in clean technologies. She has also investigated the limits to remanufacturing arising from consumer choice and the market penetration of new products in the consumer electronics sector. Beyond sustainability, Clara is also interested in the management of consumer services, particularly on how consumers dynamically choose and evaluate service experiences. Her research has been published in the leading academic journal Management Science and has been featured in The Conversation.
