Alejandro obtained his BSc degree in Industrial Engineering from the Universidad de Zaragoza, his executive MBA degree from IESE, and his PhD and MSc degrees in Logistics and Supply Chain Management in the MIT-Zaragoza Logistics Program. During his PhD, he was a visiting student at Harvard Business School, MIT, and the Kennedy School of Government.

His research interests include the link between Finance and Operations and the area of Service Operations. His research has been published in leading journals such as Journal of Operations Management. In 2018, he was awarded the Jack Meredith Best Paper Award (honorable mention) offered by JOM. He is author of the MIT Press book Practical Finance for Operations and Supply Chain Management.

Alejandro is also a Professor of Supply Chain Management at the MIT-Zaragoza Logistics Program and Research Affiliate at the Center of Transportation and Logistics at MIT. He has regularly taught at other institutions such as Vlerick Business School (Belgium), MISI (Malasia), CLI (Colombia), or Università della Svizzera Italiana (Switzerland).

Before joining academia, he devoted more than 10 years to working for several firms, holding various supply-chain related positions, such as Head of Logistics or Head of Production. He has also been involved in several international consulting projects in the area of Operations Management.
