Margarita Delgado is Senior Lecturer in the Financial Management Department. She holds a Master Degree in Economics and Business Administration from Universidad Complutense de Madrid, completed an Executive Program from IESE Business School, University of Navarra, passed the Inspector – grade “A” public examination at the Banco de España and became a Chartered Accountant. She has also contributed to academia as an associate lecturer in Finance at Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
Margarita Delgado served as Deputy Governor of the Banco de España between 2018 and 2024. During this period, she was a member of the Supervisory Board of the Single Supervisory Mechanism of the European Central Bank (ECB). She also chaired the Spanish Deposit Guarantee Scheme, was Vice Chair of the FROB (Spanish banking resolution authority), and sat at the board of the CNMV, the Spanish financial markets authority. In addition, she was a member of the Network for Greening the Financial Sector.
Ms. Delgado also chaired the steering committee and was a member of the Spanish Macroprudential Authority. She also was member of various global financial system committees at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) and the Financial Stability Board (FSB). Notably, she co-chaired the Regional Contact Group for Europe at the FSB.
Earlier in her career, Margarita Delgado was Deputy Director General of Supervision at the ECB’s Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM), with direct responsibilities for overseeing the largest and most complex banking groups in the euro area. Prior to that she had various assignments and responsibilities at the Banco de España.
Professor Delgado has published extensively on banking, the financial system, European integration, regulation and sustainability in the financial sector.
