Inma Shara to Welcome Alumni in Barcelona

Special GAR opening concert at the Palau de la Música

31/07/2013 Barcelona

The Palau de la Música in Barcelona will provide the stage for the official welcome for alumni who attend the 2013 Global Alumni Reunion. The famous venue will be the backdrop of a special event on Nov. 7 for IESE graduates, which will begin with a reception and welcome remarks, followed by a special concert given by the famous orchestra director Inma Shara.

Born in Álava in 1972, Inma Shara has broad professional experience as head of numerous international orchestras. She has directed the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Symphonic Orchestra of the Reggio de Parma Theater and the National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan, among others. She has also worked with soloists such as Mischa Maisky, Boris Berezovsky and Shlomo Mintz.

In spite of her youth, she has become among the most widely-recognized women in her profession on an international level. Professional limits, she says, are a question of personal desire: "Life’s obstacles are created by oneself. The important thing is to stay with your vocation. Results, support and recognition will come later."

Her career began early. In contact with the arts world since she was a child, she decided to devote herself exclusively to music at age 11. Although she does not believe that strict discipline is the best approach, dedication and commitment to basic values are fundamental. "I need to study everyday if I am preparing a piece or reviewing it. When it is mine, I need to feel it. It’s the only way to convey to the public all the emotion it contains," she said.

Inma Shara has also led various private and benefit concerts such as the concert for the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights, presided by Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican, and the concert for the closing of Europe Day at the Universal Expo in Shanghai. She has been named Honorary Ambassador of Marca España and has received the European Excellence Award, among other honors.
