José Luis Suárez has built his career by combining the fields of finance and real estate. He holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration from IESE Business School, University of Navarra, and is a Certified Public Accountant with a degree in Organisation and Management from the National University of Tucumán, Argentina. He designed and launched IESE’s MBA real estate course and the School’s Industry Meeting. Has taught MBA participants and senior executives at IESE campuses and partner institutions across Europe and the Americas. He previously directed IESE’s Madrid campus and served on the School’s Executive Committee.

He is the author or co-author of books, including European Real Estate Markets (Palgrave Macmillan, 2008), which he presented in New York in the wake of the global financial crisis. He also served on the board of MSCI’s European real estate subsidiary and was a member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Finance Education. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), having previously served on ULI’s Public-Private Partnership Council in Washington; a membre délégué of the Syndicat National des Professionnels Immobiliers (SNPI) in France; and a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS, UK).

Professor Suárez advised financial institutions on the management of foreclosed and other legacy real estate assets against a system-wide backdrop of more than €320 billion in real estate-developer exposures at end-2011. Today, he serves on the board of a property-owning company and other institutions; advises investment funds in Spain and internationally whose portfolios include real estate; and other companies and institutions. His teaching brings together rigorous finance, long-standing market knowledge and direct experience of investment, governance and asset management across cycles. His current research also examines the relationship between finance, real estate and sustainability.
