The Key Challenges of A Global Manager

The globalization of economic activity has been the most dramatic change of the last two decades for the business world, bringing many new challenges to the fore. Speaking at the Talent Management Summit 2011, Gareth Williams, HR director of Diageo, tells Prof. Álvarez de Mon that he believes three key elements are understanding cultural differences, the ability to connect with people and awareness of the impact you have on the business and on people, a view echoed by Roger Cude of Wal-Mart Stores.

Bob Bennett, vice president and chief learning officer at FedEx Express, says global leaders need to develop an appropriate culture to take the company forward while for Nasa's Jane Datta it is a case of leveraging international contacts in order to meet challenging goals.
