Discounts for DSI memberships:
If a DSI/EDSI member is a full-time faculty member or has his professional center of activity in a country with a GDP-per-capita-level (measured at purchasing power parity) that is lower than that of the United States, then she is eligible for a reduced membership fee in DSI (either 50% or 75% discount).
Three categories of membership are available and membership in one of the categories is based on data published in the CIA World Factbook (https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/rankorder/2004rank.html).
| Percentile of GDP per Capita (PPP) | Percentage of USA DSI dues to be paid |
| [75+] | 100% |
| [50-75] | 50% |
| [0-50] | 25% |
Example 1: Germany’s number is $35,500. It is well above the 75th percentile of $21,325, so members with primary residence in Germany are required to pay 100% of the USA dues.
Example 2: Hungary stands at $19,800, below the 75th percentile, so, using the above principle, members from Hungary pay 50% of the USA dues. Members from countries with development levels close to the cut-off points may require individual consideration: for example, Estonia ($21,400), Slovakia ($22,000). Considering that these are small countries, a case-by-case evaluation is not far-fetched.
Example 3: Members with primary affiliation in Albania ($6,200) would pay 25% of the USA membership fee.
