Public Management Initiative

Public Sector initiative

IESE carries out five lines of work in Public Management: public leadership; public administration strategy and regulation; the ethics of public decision-making and political thought; good governance: evaluation and improvement of public policy; and, lastly, civil society and social leadership. Interdisciplinary research is structured through the following chairs and research centers:

Public-Private Sector Research Center

The Public-Private Sector Research Center was founded in October 2001. Its mission is to promote research in the area of relations between the private sector and public administrations.

The results of this research are disseminated through academic conferences, research seminars, publications, forums and colloquiums. By these means, the center seeks to open the door to cooperation and the exchange of ideas and initiatives.

In addition to research, the center, directed by Professor Xavier Vives, also promotes IESE educational activities and meetings of experts in this field through seminars and conferences.

José Felipe Bertrán Chair of Governance and Leadership in Public Administration

The José Felipe Bertrán Chair of Governance and Leadership in Public Administration was founded with the goal of developing a conceptual framework to promote thorough and rigorous reflection on public affairs, which will translate into managerial improvements and increased competitiveness.

The Chair, directed by José Ramón Pin, a professor in the Department of Managing People in Organizations at IESE, examines issues such as the role of leadership, managing people's motivation, outsourcing services, private management of public services, the introduction of goal- and skill-based management, and intensive use of new technologies.
